Modern Traditional Arabic: A family dialogue

Chapter two, family

Third dialogue

The word هذا  means "this"

The word آذان  indicates to Al'Azan and الفجر is the dawn or alfajr , the sentence هذا آذان الفجر  means "This is The A'zan of Alfajr"

The word أكبر  is derived from the word كبير  which means big or great, and أكبر  means "the greatest" that is to say "Allah is the greatest"

The father by saying "الله أكبر", he is basically repeating after Mou'zan, because it is highly recommended to do so.

We covered the word أين which is a question word means "where"

The word الأولاد  is a plural word means "children" and the singular of this word is ولد which means a "son", "child" or even boy.

The question : أين الأولاد؟ is "where are the children?"

The word الحمام  means "the bathroom" and the preposition  فى means "in" or "inside"

The first verb we cover in this book is the verb يتوضأ which means "perform the ablution" or "wash certain parts of his body"

The word غرفة means "room" and فى الغرفة  means "in the room"

The second verb we cover here is يقرأ  which means "read" and the sentence يقرأ القرآن  means "read Qur'an"

The word مصلى is a place where we pray in it and basically means a "prayer room" and it isn't necessary a mosque or Masjed, because Masjed or mosque is more a dedicated place that where 5 praying are established and Azan and fixed imam, but مصلى is just a prayer place, could be in a company, factory, hospital, school and even in a street.

The third verb we cover here is تصلى which means "pray"

The word المطف  basically means "coat"

The sentence "هذا هو المعطف"  means "here is the coat"

The word يا is used before calling someone, but it isn't a condition; you don't have to use it, you can actually skip it.

The word نظارة means "glasses"

Before the word المعطف  we use the demonstrative هذا which is used to refer to a male or a "masculine word", whereas the word هذه is used to refer to a female or a "feminine word" and of course the word نظارة or the glasses itself doesn’t have any feminine qualities, but the word itself is a "feminine", so whoever made up the Arabic language, they decided to make the word نظارة  as feminine.

The sentence هبا بنا is an expression which means "let's do something, let's go, etc, and the word إلى  means "to", so the sentence هبا نذهب إلى المسجد means "let's go the mosque"
