  Learn Modern Traditional Arabic "My family" عائلتى Chapter two  Family  الوحدة الثانية  الأسرة  The first dialogue  الحوار الأول  The word هذه  means this and it used to indicate to a feminine word.  The word صورة means picture. The word أسرة  means "family" and أسرتى my family, so the sentence :هذه صورة أسرتى this is a picture of my family.  We notice the demonstrative هذه rather than هذا  and we said that هذه  is used with feminine words , but هذا is used with mescaline words or persons.   The sentence ما شاء الله is an expression of liking or admiring something.  The sentence or the question من هذا means "who is this?"  The word   والد is the Arabic word for father and it is attached to the possessive pronoun ي which means "my", so والدى means "my father", and the sentence هذا والدى  means "this is my father"  The very common word of the word والد is أب  , so, we can say أب...
